Medical Education for High School Students

Are you a high school student interested in the career of Health Care?
If so, start your quest for knowledge right here at the School of Health & Medicine of the Dominican International Institute, a non-profit post-secondary institution, duly approved and licensed by the State of Michigan.

We have developed a very special program to meet your needs, including didactic, clinical mentorship and hospital exposure, both here and abroad.

These programs will provide you with valuable hands-on experience studying & learning in a challenging health care environment.
We have assembled a distinguished faculty of medical doctors, nurses, physical therapists and other healthcare professionals to teach these programs.

Seats are limited and students are selected with consideration of their high school grades and two recommendations (the school and a healthcare professional) Pre-selection interview is mandatory.
- No books are required. All notes & study material will be provided. Students are required to bring own lab-coat, stethoscope & items of personal use
- Malpractice Insurance during clinical-phase is provided.
- Study Abroad program include Airfare, home-stay, and all meals.
- Parents are encouraged to join as volunteers.
- Programs & costs are subject to change without notice.

Medical Mentorship & volunteer work at local health care facilities, clinics & hospitals.
Study Abroad – with hospital exposure and volunteer work at our affiliated hospital in the Caribbean (Dominican Republic).
Pre Pre-Med Certificate will be awarded to successful students.

The Curriculum
  1. Basic Sciences   3 months - 190 hours   $950.00
  - Introduction to Medicine
- Medical Terminology
- Human Anatomy & Physiology
- Human Growth & Development
- Introduction to Psychology
- Biomechanics of Human Body

  2. Clinical – Didactic   3 months – 60 hours   $650.00
  - Introduction to Pathology
- Disease Process
- Diseases & Health Conditions
- Vital Signs
- Lab Reports
- Diagnostic Tests
- CPR & First Aid

  3. Clinical Mentorship   4-6 weeks 30+ hours   $650.00
Students who have successfully completed components 1 & 2 will be assigned to shadow physician(s) for volunteer work & observation

  4. STUDY ABROAD   1-Week 40+ hours   $2,750.00
Students having completed first 3 components may qualify for 1-week study abroad, hospital exposure & volunteer program at our affiliated hospital in the Caribbean (Dominican Republic). Knowledge of Spanish Language is mandatory
